Originally an illustrator, Garance Doré has quickly become a style icon. Her namesake blog is a reference for street style fans and fashionistas all over the globe. Unlike other blogs like The Sartorialist or Facehunter, she actually writes posts that deal with her own fashion dilemmas, opinions and observations. Besides blogging, she contributes to magazines and goes to every possible Fashion Week.

What do you do in your life outside the blogsophere?

I am an illustrator, freelance photographer and writer.

What made you start your blog?

I was working as an illustrator but the contact with others, the social aspects of work, I missed all that. Working as an illustrator is a solitary job… So I decided to start a blog to share some of my sketches. I talked a lot about style and so quite naturally, after a few months, I began adding photos.

What do you look for when photographing someone for Garance Doré?

I am never looking for anything in particular because i like to keep my eyes opened and not get too much into gimmicks. But it’s all in the allure, the charm, the aura. It’s not the clothes, those come second, it’s all in how you wear them!

Can you describe your own style?

My personal style is very simple. I love grays and blues, pants and cotton tees, and I always ALWAYS wear heels. I love shoes. I’ve got a thing for accessories as well. I have a lot of belts, gloves, scarves… you name it! So I try to do simple, but always try to add in a striking detail to catch your attention.

Do you think writing Garance Doré has changed your personal style?

Change… That’s definitely something I most like about fashion! But of course, taking pictures of stylish people has refined my eye and my style.

What is your favorite current trend?

Bright solid colors and well executed fur. Can’t get enough of ‘em.

Do you have any favorite designers?

At the moment I love the work of Alexander McQueen. It’s always a thrill to go to his shows and into his shops. But I’m always changing on that. There’s that change again! I have a lot of respect for Karl Lagerfeld. He is such an icon of our time.
