Café Antiquari – Palma de Mallorca

Posted in Jetsetter » Tips » by :: August 31, 2009

antiquariThis corner bar and restaurant used to be an antiques shop, and on taking over the lease the new owners decided to keep it’s Majorcan name, ‘Antiquari’. Calling itself a ‘cultural oasis’ Antiquari is a very welcome addition to Palma’s nightlife, particularly as it offers regular live music featuring eclectic bands of local and foreign resident musicians.

The café is French-owned and offers tasty morsels for dinner and lunch, their specialities being tostadas and interesting salads as well as a few French favourites such as delicious savoury crepes. The bar menu offers local and international beers, including Guinness on tap as well as a tantalising selection of Spanish and international wines.

Antiquari was opened about a year ago and now has a dedicated following amongst the more discerning members of Palma’s cultural and artistic community. As well as regular concerts in the basement, there is always an exhibition of artwork or photography upstairs, usually showcasing the work of local or foreign resident artists. Hidden up a side street in the old town, which runs between the Rambla and C/San Miguel, you may have to ask directions to find the place but you can rest assured your efforts will be well rewarded!
