Christophe Robin’s Couture Haircare

The man responsible for countless glossy celebrity hairstyles

Just when you thought that there couldn’t be any more celebrity hair stylists set to crawl out of the woodwork with a new line of life-changing hair products, let me introduce to just one more…

But before you groan, rest assured that French coiffeur Christophe Robin’s line of nature-inspired and chemically-proven haircare is something pretty special.  Not at least from a financial perspective! Seriously, these products are so fancy you’ll need to get your French-English Oxford Dictionary out before you even turn the tap on.

Behind the science lies 15 years of experience in hairdressing and a list of celebrity clients who would give us all hair envy: Catherine Deneuve, Andie McDowell, Laetitia Casta and Celine Dion (whatever you think – she has damn fine locks!)  Having firmly established himself as an exceptional colourist, Robin decided to create a range of products exclusively for colour-treated hair: “Christophe couldn’t imagine colouring hair without first treating it”.

Using ingredients such as wheatgerm, lavander and lemon, these products will change the way that you wash your hair.  Forget the 2-in1, Robin’s collection is made up of oils, masques and creamy cleansers, all of which can be mixed and match depending on your hair type.

Huile à la Lavande must be warmed before use in a cup of hot water (just like V05 Hot Oil treatments – remember those?).  The thick, condensed oil then becomes a warm, treacly delight that nourishes your hair as you massage it in.  Now I don’t know about your hair, but mine has been cloloured more times than it’s been washed i.e. it needs a good ol’ treatment every once in a while.  The lavender oil gloss stayed shimmering on my curls for days and my brittle ends felt stronger and healthier.

The Wheatgerm Treatment Duo – shampoo and hair masque – work by sealing the hair’s cuticle with an acidic pH.  This intensive masque left my hair light, yet rich and glossy.  And sure, I felt just a little bit smug after using a luxurious Euro hair duo on my blond curls but I my hair had more bounce and shine than I’ve ever been able to produce sans hairdresser assistance.

Christophe Robin's luxe haircare products

One Christophe Robin’s most celebrated and innovative hair products is the Creme Lavante au Citron; this glistening cream formula is somewhere between shampoo and hair treatment, refreshing coloured hair between salon visits.  Being a blondie, my hair is no stranger to lemon.  In fact, it winces every time a lemon comes in sight, such is the destructive legacy of the of the lemon-juice-on-my-hair-on-the beach habit of my youth. Relax, barnet of mine!  This lemon is a brightening and conditioning between-colour shampoo that will make your hair gleam.  Citron pressé, anyone?

Now, my hair being curly, bleached and damaged, I always leave just a little bit of conditioner on my hair after washing.  Is that wrong?  Am I alone?  Don’t kill me Christophe but I thought that the Demelant Antioxydant aux 4 Huiles et Myrtille was best left to linger, smoothing the cuticle without weighing it down.  This is off piste ladies, not on the instruction leaflet – follow my advice at your peril!

So Gallic Frieda/Worthington/Clarke-esque grand coiffeur Robin busts into the UK market comfortable, I’m sure, in the knowledge that his French celebrity uber-credentials only raise the bar for this range of fantastic haircare.  It ain’t cheap, but boy is it worth it.  Maybe just buy one product and use it as the crutch for the rest of your high street shampoo collection.  Just make sure you leave this one out on the side of the bath, ok?
