CRAVE: Burberry Cropped Aviator Jacket

Posted in Fashionista » Crave » by :: July 22, 2010

We’re as faithful as any fashion maverick to the iconic motif of Burberry; the classic trench coat. But we can easily forgive Christopher Bailey for not sending a single trench down the runway this season, as he decided to create an entire trend in one fell swoop instead. The shearling lined aviator jacket.

Burberry Prorsum's sexy shearling jacket

If you buy one piece to update your wardrobe for the colder months ahead, make it Top Gun-inspired. Crafted from 100% sheepskin, this cosy little number will keep you warm whether you’re flying a fighter jet or merely running in heels. The decadent shearling collar, waist and cuff detail soften the tough, chocolate leather, while epaulets enhance the authenticity of the aeronautical inspired design. However, the jacket is far from RAF issue, as its subtle sheen and belt buckle details give a tailored finish that lives up to the exquisite quality expected from the legendary British fashion house.

The jacket also cashes in on the popular outdoors trend that we saw across the runways; where chunky knits and sumptuous wools became the luxe fabrics on our wish list. Bailey created several variations on the aviator jacket for Autumn/Winter 2010, including a particularly feminine, fluffy cream version that had editors drooling and speed-dialling stockists. Pair with a fitted skirt (try body con if you dare) in muted jewel colours, and sleek ladylike accessories to combat the overtly masculine style, or embrace Route 66 chic and wear with a pair of well cut jeans.

Available at mytheresa.com, the cropped version costs just shy of £2000, so this is definitely an investment approach to aviator style. Far cheaper than buying the plane though!
