The Devil Wears Pinstripes
Thelondonpaper’s anonymous columnist Citygirl is to follow in the footsteps of her predecessor Cityboy in releasing a book.
Virgin Books has signed up a title, Confessions of a City Girl, for publication in August. The book will be published in trade paperback, priced £12.99, and is being pitched as “the devil wears pinstripes.”
The columnist is said to have landed her first job in the City in 2004 and to have “traded bonds and derivatives in some of the most competitive and testosterone-filled offices on earth”, as well as having worked with the super-rich hedge-fund managers in Mayfair. Virgin promises that her book will “expose the macho madness that has destroyed banks and ruined so many lives” and argue why it is only women who can right the current financial situation.
The Citygirl column in Thelondonpaper began in 2008, taking over the slot previously occupied by Geraint Anderson’s Cityboy column, which exposed the excesses of life in the City before the banking crisis hit. Anderson left the City after being signed up by Headline and his book, Cityboy: Beer and Loathing in the Square Mile, has sold over 90,000 copies in all editions through Nielsen BookScan.
Like Anderson, the Citygirl columnist’s real identity is to be revealed on publication.
