Fashion Flash: The Ones to Watch
Last week the great and the good congregated at The May Fair Hotel to take part in the Profile Fashion Event – where new and emerging designers proudly stood alongside their collections, excitedly waxing lyrical about their design ethos to cooing press and buyers eagerly fondling the fabric. Designs ranged from daywear, to jaw dropping swimwear and dazzling accessories, a selection of which was showcased in a magnificent catwalk show at the end of the evening. Here’s our round up of participating designers to keep an eye out for…
Isy & Peeps
Created by the fabulously named Israel Imarni, the collection comprised romantic floor-skimming dresses bearing prints of birds and horses in a soft palette of grey and caramel; these were paired with cropped leather jackets, providing a modern twist. The designer also offered up a selection knitted day dresses in more subdued colours of black, white and grey, with tessellating patterns resembling 1980s computer graphics – a definite must have for your winter wardrobe.
Paolita
The beachwear designer’s show displayed a prominent nautical theme, with sexy stripes and frills evoking Bettie Page and other cheeky pin up girls of yesteryear. Also dominant among the collection were vibrant ethnic prints inspired by the Galapolos Isalnds. Models prowled the catwalk in daring cutaway swimsuits, and flirty string bikinis, as highly envious audience members looked on.
Seema’s Heart & Soul
Hailing from Jaipur, Rajisthan, and raised in England, the jewellery and accessories designer channelled the beauty of her homeland with a series of delicately embroidered chiffon capelets, in an array of vibrant colours to rival an Indian sunset.
Vjera Vilicnik
Having studed Haute Couture Embroidery at the Ecole Lesage in Paris, Croatian designer Vilicnik sent out an array of romantic floor-length dresses decorated with beautiful hand-made chiffon flowers, feathers and beads. Highlights included a floor length dress with a multi-tiered skirt while the bust section was a melange of weird and wonderful embellishment.
Haizhen Wang
After stints at MaxMara and Boudicca, the Chinese designer’s first solo collection signaled a promising debut; with handprinted dresses in a muted palette of bronze and gold, voluminous tulip skirts with cinched in waists, as well as a a highly covetable waxed-cotton trench jacket – a wardrobe staple if ever there was one!
