A candid twitpic from Agyness Deyn

Fashion fans get your Blackberrys ready, the quick dish (we’re talking 140 characters here) on this ins and outs of this fantastically fickle industry are at the tips of your Twittering fingers. We’ve highlighted just a few of fashion’s best who’ve taken to Twitter. Do you follow?

@AggyDeyn

Set in front of Warhol-esque backdrop of a formal portrait of the Queen herself, supermodel and fashionista, Agyness Deyn holds nothing back when speaking out to her almost 60, 000 followers. Slightly cheeky, sometimes cryptic, and every-so-often peppered with a bit of foul language, her Tweets give short shout-outs to BFF Henry Holland, recount her day, or let us peek into her world of quirky thoughts. TwitPic-ing a kooky shot of herself with a finger puppet, ranting about the eminent closure of her favorite diner, or declaring, “If there’s no chocolate in heaven, I’m not going”, fashion fans might not exactly learn any exciting industry details, but they most certainly are in for a bit of a laugh.

@Karl_Lagerfeld

It’s hard to imagine Mr. Lagerfeld, behind the iconic dark glasses and in leather finger-less gloves, taking the time to Tweet. Even though it might be updated by a staff of assistants, the deep, philosophical thoughts written on this Twitter can only be inspired by the incredible visionary that is Lagerfeld himself. His comments, although few and far between, more often than not reference fashion and life, the life of fashion, and fashion in one’s life. He writes, “Like poetry, fashion does not state anything. It merely suggests”. With his bio explaining, “ a terrible underachiever”, other posts give followers a glimpse directly into the inter-workings of what must be the curse of a genius mind; “I live in a sort of permanent dissatisfaction. I think that’s the secret to doing things well”.

@StellaMcCartney

Stella McCartney and her “Official Twitter Team” most definitely take advantage of the powers of social media by using her running Twitter blog as extremely positive brand PR. Updates most often feature news about the line, whether it be describing a storefront or explaining the brand’s participation in various campaigns. Interestingly enough, this “Official” Twitter account also speaks quite directly to its client base; Tweets answer specific questions with a link or photo or suggest pieces from the line that correspond to trends. Once such Tweet replying to a follower in Hollywood, “@k_aime Good luck with your project! You can find lots of info on our website www.stellamccartney.com”. Some of these pointed Tweets are followed with a cutsie little “x”: a little love direct from Stella to you.

@HilaryAlexander

The Telegraph’s Fashion Director, Hilary Alexander, scoffs at those who may think that the Internet is ruining formal print journalism. She has taken to Twitter like a pro, linking to Telegraph articles and commenting on all things fashion with the trained eye and sharp tongue of a seasoned fashion critic. With a Tweet almost every hour, one would guess that she would have to have a bit of Twitter help. Alexander’s Tweets also reflect personal comments on everything from who’s saying what at posh fashion events, to remarks regarding musical performances and fashion choice on Strictly Come Dancing. What this Twitter account proves is that no one is ever safe from a comment from a fashion journalist; Alexander Tweets at 21.50, “Cheryl [Cole] looks like she sat on a rotten pineapple on X Factor”.

A twitpic of Anna Dello Russo by Garance

@garancedoré

Corsican blogger/photographer-extraordinaire and street-style guru, Garance Doré’s Twitter is just about as simplistically chic as her taste for fashion and eye for a shot. She devotes her 140 characters to linking readers to new posts on her infamous blog, giving quick updates about what fantastic fashion event she is then witnessing, or describing a celebrity rendez-vous that would make any pop-culture junkie drool. (Think lunch with Kate Hudson). Surprising though, especially for someone who never turns the camera on herself, is the fact that Doré lets her “followers” in on her a select number of personal events and thoughts; she also posts haphazard shots of hotel bars, Florence at sunset, and her own blurred reflection in the front window of her hairdressers after an appointment.

@Nicole_Levy

Fashion Director for Dust PR (representing brands like Rebecca Minkoff, Irregular Choice, LNA, and James Small) Nicole Levy’s Twitter account reflects her crazy days in the world of fashion PR. She gives short updates about her long hours, headaches at work, and interesting finds while on her lunch break, including a shop in London that sells loads of American sweets. As any fashion follower might expect, Levy’ posts funny TwitPics and comments on the who’s who backstage at cool events for the likes of MAC and Cosmopolitan. Unexpectedly though,  Levy uses her Twitter amost as a sort of mobile phone, Twittering text-like messages to her journalist and PR friends to pencil in meetings and inquire about evenings out.
