Fashionable Frolics

This month’s cover story was shot by Carli Adby. We found out a bit more about the people involved with the shoot…

Carli Adby – Photographer

Carli is a twenty-something photographer trying to get her foot in the door in fashion. Having studied photography and fashion, she worked on the design team for a label supplying designer menswear garments, but packed it all in to dedicate her time to photographer. Carli is inspired by the pyschology behind things and why we are the way we are, as well as by locations and abandoned properties, as can be observed in the Fashionable Frolics shoot. In terms of photography she’s a fan of Tim Walker and Mario Testino. Her dream purchase would be a converted barn with a lake at the bottom of the garden surrounded by tall trees, roses and bluebells. In five years she would like to own an old school medium format camera and have visited Paris as she has never been. See more of Carli’s work online here.

Therese Callanen – Stylist

Therese is inspired by travel, in particular Nepal – she loves the handmade textiles and the mishmash of coloured embellishments created locally. Favourite designers include Vivienne Westwood, Chloe, Stella McCartney and Balmain, as well as emerging talents Tanielle Lobo, HMH Couture and Rachel Freire. Five years from now she would like to be continuing to put on London Fashion Week shows for emerging designers and helping new designers get a foot into the fashion industry – but hopefully working a few less hours! As Therese manages fashion shows, she can run in heels without any problem…

Lucy Gregory – Make-up Artist

Five years from now, Lucy would like to be living in America and working as a succcessful make-up artist, but for now she couldn’t live without cosmetics and her Mum and looks to her Gran and sisters for life inspiration. Fashion icons include Gwen Stefani, David Bowie, Kate Moss and Marilyn Monroe and she loves the movie Saturday Night Fever. Lucy’s top recommendation for a great night out is the Bluu Bar in Manchester and she can run in heels of any height with ease!

Megan Prior – Assistant

Megan lives in London and is really inspired by the city and its streets. A fan of vintage clothes, she’d like to be a freelance photographer in five years and couldn’t live without her friends and family. She’s currently listening to the sounds of Paloma Faith and the Friendly Fires and her all-time favourite film is True Romance. If she had to take just one book to a desert island, it would be Gregory David Roberts’ Shantaram. Megan can hardly walk in heels, never mind run in them!

Tara Walker – Model

Tara grew up in South Africa and loves vintage fashion – she often feels that she was born in the wrong era! She is really inspired by a mixture of cultures and couldn’t live without nature, the wonders of the world and her family and loved ones. Favourite films include Pan’s Labyrinth and Amelie and she loves Paulo Coehlo’s The Alchemist. Her last holiday was to Riccone in Italy and her top recommend for a fantastic evening would be at Rafiki’s bar in Cape Town.

Morgaine Matthews – Model

Morgaine is an avid Portobello Market shopper who couldn’t live without cheese! Five years from now, she’d like to be continuing to party in London; her favourite bar in the city is Sketch. Morgaine is inspired by Dutch culture and feels that the biggest problem in society today is a lack of community. She’s currently listening to Death Cab for Cutie and dreams of buying her very own apartment.

The exquisite clothes for the shoot were supplied by the very talented Louis de Gama.
