High Drama on the Heath
This month’s cover story featuring Masha Ma’s bold, feminine collection was shot by Nat Cook (assisted by Ollie Bartlett), with styling by Natalie Robinson and hair and make-up courtesy of Heather B. We found out a bit more about the people involved with the shoot…
Nat Cook – Photographer
Someone who struts, rather than runs in heels, Nat is inspired by literary and fashion geniuses such as Oscar Wilde and John Galliano. She’s often to be found in charity shops and vintage boutiques although another shopping destination is her friends’ wardrobes! Her last trip was to South America for six months, which goes some way to explaining her dream purchase: a Brazilian business visa, plus a studio in Rio de Janeiro overlooking the sea. That’s where Nat would like to be five years hence… Her desert island read would be The Onion Eaters by J.P Donleavy and she’d really like to take some marmite too! Society’s biggest problem? The Tories… For more of Nat’s beautiful images, see her website.
Heather B – Make-up Artist and Hair Stylist
Heather B is inspired by absolutely everything but her medium of choice is make-up. She thrives on fashion forward shoots, catwalk shows and music videos, designing make-up looks to creative concepts and working with interesting, inspiring, fun people. Heather couldn’t live without her Shu Uemura eyelash curlers and Max Factor Waterproof Mascara (oh, and her fella… who told her to say that). She reckons that the biggest problem in society today is not enough respect generally. On a lighter note, Heather B prefers her local pub over any flashy bars and can definitely run in heels… on the way out anyway! Natalie Robinson – Stylist
Natalie is a huge fan of inspirational fashion brand Maison Martin Margiela although this season she dreams of buying Burberry’s must-have aviator jacket. For the moment, she can’t live without lipstick and Brick Lane’s boutiques. Other inspirations include Art Deco and innovative British designer Gareth Pugh. Five years from now, she’d love to be in Paris heading up her own label, although if she just happened to end up on a desert island, she’d like to peruse Hunter S. Thompson’s Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. She’s currently listening to Mercury Music Prize Winners The XX and Natalie’s favourite film is hilarious vintage comedy Some Like It Hot. Natalie does try to run in heels but unfortunately most attempts end with her on the floor!
Phoebe Chapman – Model
Having grown up moving and living all over the world, travelling is ingrained in Phoebe’s soul, but a her favourite places include Vienna, India and Marrakech. When it comes to fashion, she’s a fan anything that looks a bit quirky – clashing colours, fifties dresses and biker boots make up her dress code. Phoebe absolutely couldn’t live with cups of tea; she dreads the thought of facing the day without one, maybe two… She has far too many favourite films to narrow things down but when pushed admits to a preference for anything by Jeunet and Caro – masters of imagination. Phoebe’s dream buy would be either a a desert island, or a haunted castle….Phoebe’s recommended reads for the moment: Poe Ballantine’s very funny The Decline of the Lawrence Welk Empire and Margaret Atwood’s The Year of the Flood.
