Hotel Particulier – Paris
It may be designer boutiques dominating the luxury retail market but all that is set to change as the capital is rapidly gaining a crop of new concept stores. The latest arrival is the recently opened Hôtel Particulier in Paris’ 2nd arrondissement, a luxury goods boutique offering exceptional lines in fashion, furniture and fragrances.
The Hôtel Particulier founders Vanessa and Laetitia Roggwiller are keen to carve their niche into the Parisian shopping scene by carrying smaller labels not widely distributed.
Although fresh from university the recent fashion marketing graduates are not new to the luxury goods market, their father Philippe Roggwiller founded exotic leather specialist Soficuir International, which was acquired by Hermes in 2007.
Located near Etienne Marcel, in the arty district of Montorgueil, architect Dirk Engelen of Belgium-based design studio B-Architecten transformed the 18th-century former private mansion into a modern shopping emporium. It is within its home-like atmosphere and kinetic art inspired interior, that Hôtel Particulier unveils its diverse and superlative edit, with the collections ranging from casual, upscale to fantasy and fun.
The 1,700-square-foot store carries about 30 different labels, with an around 80 percent of the goods aimed towards women. The store;s buyer Nicolas Domarle has sourced a selection from international designers from Europe, Australia, Thailand, Japan and the United States.
Better known labels like Jean-Charles De Castelbajac, Kris Van Assche and Gaspard Yurkievich are presented along with new names, already established in their native country, such as Australian; Alice McCall, or NYC’s Rubin Chapelle and their denim label 192 Doves, exclusives to the store as none of which are yet distributed in France. Other noted exciting labels include In Life, Dress 33, Greyhound and Playhound, 2k by Gingham tees, IDLI, Ashish N Soni, and Bend Couture.
Its clear Vanessa and Laetitia are serious about promoting young, up and coming talent, Parisian designer David Szeto has an entire room for his collection and exclusive T-shirt line by new French label Gilles et Meurice and Marie-Laure Chamorel python-wrapped necklaces continues the ‘made in France’ theme.
Accessories in store put forward essential pieces made to make a statement like Carlos Falchi’s hand-painted crocodile clutch, Linda Farrow sunglasses or Timmy Woods’ bags. Jewellery, hats, scarves and shoes all from labels such as, Ashley Ashoff, Philippe Roucou, Disaya, Thomas Dimetto and Vivienne Westwood – who along with goods from Alex Mabille will have their own suite in store this autumn.
The beauty line-up offers a selection of our favourite wares including fragrance brand Etat Libre D’Orange and Six Scents. There’s also Ellis Faas professional cosmetics line and YesforLov, a collection of erotic beauty products.
And Hôtel Particulier is just as particular when it comes to their home design and décor goods. The boutique insists on presenting chief furniture designers who cultivate the art of differentiation. Leading names like Mat & Jewski, Renoma, Sixinch, Lisaura, and Klevering can be found here perfectly keeping in tone and harmonising with the stores aesthetic.
