Who are they ?

Je Suis Belle, is the result of a collaboration between Dalma Dévényi and Tibi Kiss, two of the newest and hottest designers from the up-and-coming Budapest scene. Dalma and Tibi met as two young design students studying at Moholy-Nagy University of Applied Arts in Budapest and have been running Je Suis Belle as a full time business ever since.

The Look

Dalma and Tibi state that Je Suis Belle is about “reconstructing historical imagery to move towards a progressive future”, they seek to combine gracefulness and playfulness to create collections that cater towards both originality and a sense of self confidence. Their 2010 Spring/Summer collection does just that. The collection showcases stunning prints (inspired by the work of Hungarian artists Attila Szűcs) of earthy, yet playful colours and slim line garments that manage to embody understated style while screaming originality and demanding second looks. One of the stand out pieces from this collection is Je Suis Belle’s sketch dress; at first glance a simple, white summer dress, that on closer inspection reveals its originality in the form of a barely discernable ‘sketch’ just below the waist line.

Throughout the collection natural colours in a blissful marriage with pure whites conceal hidden patterns and images which combine to create a selection of garments that are simultaneously subtle and obvious, understated and highly individual. Much like a great work of art, perception of Je Suis Belle’s collection depends upon perspective, and also like art, everyone will be coming in for a closer look.

What’s the buzz ?

With understated elegance and art literally embodied in their work Dalma and Tibi, the design team behind Je Suis Belle have, unsurprisingly, a string of awards to their name. These awards stretch back several years including, first place in the 2005 ARC billboard competition in the category of “I Love Hungary, first place in the 2005 H.C.A international fashion designer awards, a 2006 scholarship to the London collage of fashion and in 2007 Dalma Dévényi and Tibi Kiss were named Hungary’s top young fashion designers at the 2007 fashion awards.
