Lazy Hair
It’s dark when you wake up and you just want to snuggle under the covers and go back to sleep. It’s dark when you get home too and you’d consider donating a kidney in exchange for a plane ticket to somewhere sunny. Well we recommend that you forget lengthy blow-dries and complicated chignons for some lazy hair. Press snooze now!
The Lazy Cut
The lazy cut is all about finding a style that looks finished without you having to do anything to it! The lazy cut du jour is the midi bob; this inbetweeny style can look sexy, girly, chic or grungy depending on your clothes and make-up. Whilst it’s admittedly super versatile, the long, layered style has had its day. Don’t be afraid of getting the chop – it will always grow back and you’ll be surprised how a new look will make you feel more energised and inspired. If you’re currently sporting a short style, a longer-length bob is ideal if you’re just not sure about whether long hair is for you. Look to Nicole Richie, Jessica Alba, Katie Holmes and Alexa Chung for examples of this no-fuss hairstyle. This layered style really suits everyone and if you want to add something more, go for a blunt or sideswept fringe. Have a play around with virtual makeovers – Hairmixer will give you an idea of what your new style might look like. You really can wash and go with this cut; just smooth some mousse on (we recommend Phyto’s Pro Intense Volume Mousse) and blast dry upside down. If your hair tends to be flat, this style is definitely for you, as the layers will create va-va-voom volume! Those with curlier hair might want to add definition – try Techni.Art Gloss Wax by L’Oreal).
Lazy Daytime Hair
Slicked back hair is a perennial catwalk favourite and it’s lazy hair at its most lazy! This is a great style to choose if you haven’t had time to wash your hair, or just need an extra half hour in bed. However, even if you are going for easy hair, it shouldn’t look too effortless; little tweaks mean that this style will look polished and chic. The key to slick styling is top quality gel – we like Tara Smith’s Rock On Hard Hold Styling Gel, which contains no nasty ingredients either. Smooth on the gel and then scrape back hair into a high ponytail and fasten with a band. Ensure that the ponytail looks extra snappy by winding some hair around it and secure with a couple of grips. For a sexy twist on masculine styling, part hair at the side and then fasten into a low ponytail. Wrap the hair into a chignon and pin before adding a fashion-forward accent such as a large bow hair clip, or for something more feminine, choose a corsage or feathered barette. Although this style is ideal to wear to the office, if you’re going out for drinks with the girls after work, just add a touch of dark eyeliner or slick of vibrant lipcolour , as the sleek look will make your features really pop. For an on-trend look, tie a folded scarf or bandanna around your head – seen on the catwalks at Marni and set to be big this summer.
Lazy Evening Hair
A lazy updo? It is possible? Yes, an updo is entirely feasible with minimal effort and makes for an ultra elegant evening style. Don’t complicate things – this is all about variations on the humble ponytail. It’s best to begin with a styling spray; we like Bumble & Bumble’s Does It All. For rockabilly retro glamour, twist the front section into a quiff and then secure with pins before popping into a ponytail. Or ponytail created, try plaiting hair into two braids and then twisting around into a loose bun. Eighties styling calls for crimping irons, but don’t bother using them on the whole ponytail; just crimp the top section and then twist hair into a loose bun – easy peasy! It might look bizarre, but a bun shaper is a great accessory to use in order to create a sixties-style updo. Just pop the ring around your ponytail and then pin hair in place. Spritz with hairspray to finish – we recommend Davines Wizards Crystal Hair Lacquer. An elegant evening updo would be perfectly paired with some choice accessories – go for something sparkly to really dress it up. We love Topshop’s set of cute kirby grips or perhaps try an embellished headband. Bijoux Heart’s gold-plated band is pricey, but would make any updo look stunning. The laziest evening style of them all is perhaps the most glamorous – who doesn’t love big, Bardot-esque hair? Add volume with dry shampoo (Klorane’s Oatmilk spray shampoo is great) and some serious back-combing – et voila!
Lazy Haircare
What’s better in chilly months than lazing in a hot bath filled with luxurious bathfoam? And whilst you soak in the tub, take care of your locks with some lazy haircare. To keep hair in good condition, you should aim to use a deep conditioning treatment at least once a week – we recommend Trilogy’s Botanical Moisture Masque which promises to rescue dry, damaged locks. If your hair need a bit of a boost, try Louise Galvin’s specially-formulated masque for fine hair. To create perfectly defined waves and ringlets, use the Curl Conscious Nourishing Masque from Bumble & Bumble. If you’re more of a wash and go girl, skip the conditioner and spritz your locks with Paul Labrecque’s Repair Style Hydrating Hair Lotion. This wonder product promises to make hair more manageable and add a dose of healthy shine. Textured hair was big on the SS2010 catwalks and you could try John Masters Organics Sea Mist Salt Spray to create an ‘undone’, hippy chic look. In terms of tools, you’d be surprised what great quality brushes will do for your hair – speed up your blowdry with a Ceramic Barrel Brush from SPI; working on the same principle as ceramic styling tools, this wonder brush will lock in shape as you dry. For super swift brushing in the morning, try the Tangle Teezer which detangles wet hair quickly without breakage.
