Beauty Blogger Confidential: Lipglossiping
The fantastically-titled Lipglossiping is one of the UK’s most widely read beauty blogs. Describing herself as ‘a girl with too many lipsticks. And a blog about them,’ Charlotte has garnered a huge following amongst beauty junkies since she began chronicling her exploits in make-up, skin care and everything in between – perhaps due to her approachable style and the sense of humour that emanates from her posts.
She doesn’t work in the industry, but her blog proves that everyone can draw pleasure from a little cosmetic fun. And her recent award at The Johnson & Johnson Beauty Care Journalism Awards goes to show that you don’t need to be a pro to make an impact in beauty writing. We got the insider info from Charlotte and if you like what you read, don’t forget to follow her on Twitter @lipglossiping.
When and why did you start blogging?
I began beauty blogging in April 2009. At the time, I was eight months pregnant with my daughter and too heavily pregnant (read: fat) to venture out and take photographs for my photography blog. Instead, I started taking photos of the things around me… most of which happened to be makeup!
What’s your daytime face?
Foundation, blush, lipstick and mascara. Eyeshadow is a luxury for when I have more time – coloured eyeliner a quicker alternative! Anything else is optional during the daytime.
And evening make-up?
Pretty much everything I own, piled on as thick as I can get away with! I have to wear it sometime right?
Favourite niche European brand?
Ooooh tough one! I think probably Helena Rubinstein though it’s a nightmare to get hold of in the UK.
Always in your make-up bag?
Current make-up crush?
Product or person? I’m crushing on the YSL Spring collection… particularly those cream blushes and new Rouge Pur Couture shades! Person? No-one modern!
Favourite DIY home treatment?
The good old DIY Aspirin mask because I find it SO effective at calming hormonal breakouts if caught early, truly a little miracle!
Best luxury buy?
Probably my Elemis Pro Collagen Marine Cream. I see good value in it because I love it so much, but my husband sobs everytime I go near the counter.
Favourite skincare product?
See above. That and at least 1001 different facial/body oils.
What beauty addresses can we find in your little black book?
My local laser hair removal clinic!! Changed my life.
Do you read any other blogs?
Oh yes, I’m a total blog addict! I love Cosmetic-Candy, Temptalia, Beaut.ie, Kiss&Makeup.tv and Vex in theCity especially.
What perfumes can we find in your fragrance library?
Dior Hypnotic Poison, Jo Malone White Jasmine & Mint, Hugo Boss Deep Red, YSL Cinema… oh – many, many more!
Favourite beauty trend this season?
Smoky eyes, always… I love winter for dark eyes and dark lips – just perfect!
How should brands engage with beauty bloggers?
I love it when brands remember that bloggers often have full-time jobs and other commitments not related to their blogs. A little bit of flexibility is a wonderful brand/blogger commodity. That, of course… works both ways!
Can you run in heels?
I wish! I can barely stand in them!If you like what you read, find out more about Lipglossiping on her blog and don’t forget to follow on Twitter @lipglossiping.
