SKK Lighting – Dog table lamp

If you and your other half aren’t quite ready to take the next step, why not break things down even further and enjoy the presence of a furry friend, without the inconvenience of walkies and spending pennies on tins of food? SKK Lighting‘s rather hilarious Dog table lamp is the perfect eccentric addition to a living room and comes in a variety of colours – you could even purchase two or three and have your own pack of pooches! Yes, it’s a little bit kitsch, but it will certainly make for conversation. For even more amusement, add sunglasses or other assorted accessories. Warning: This dog will not protect your possessions from burglars. Available online from Liberty.

Stormfauna – Firefly portable lightstrings

stormfauna

Fairylights scream Christmas and Chinese lanterns are slightly too reminiscent of party decorations, but Stormfauna’s Firefly lightstrings will add a pretty touch to your bedroom. Casting a gentle, romantic glow, the light uses fibre optics and is totally portable as it doesn’t require mains electricity – it uses batteries. So yes, you could even go camping with these clever lightstrings! In the image, the lights are arranged around a glass bowl, but they could be strung up in any configuration; around a picture, window or if you’re a lady with Sleeping Beauty fantasies, around your bedhead for a truly fairytale boudoir. Stormfauna are the very clever Zara McConnell and Linda Lines. The lights are available online from Design55.

Magic that Cher would have appreciated

Black & Blum – Kind of Magic lamp

It’s important to have a spiritual leader or guru of sorts in your life. Cher Horowitz, for example. Yes, the protagonist of Amy Heckerling’s Clueless delivered many nuggets of wisdom that have probably changed your life. Who can doubt the value of “Until mankind is peaceful enough not to have violence on the news, there’s no point in taking it out of shows that need it for entertainment value”? And who hasn’t exclaimed “As if”? Miss Cher Horowitz was certainly someone who knew the importance of good lighting. Black & Blum‘s Kind of Magic lamp, is well, just that. Whether your room requires an elegant standard lamp, some strategic uplighting or a traditional table light, this clever gadget will hop to it! The aluminium base can be repositioned to suit your taste. This is the sort of lamp that Ms Horowitz (with her snazzy computerised wardrobe) would definitely have appreciated. With this lamp you will never have to ask yourself “Did my hair get flat? Did I stumble into some bad lighting?” Available online from Black & Blum.

Droog – Clothes hanger lamp

Perhaps you’re not someone who always remembers to hang all of your clothes up. Maybe you’re not entirely sure what the purpose of a wardrobe is. When you have a frock collection that would rival Carrie Bradshaw’s, working out how to store your clothes can be a bit of a challenge. Not any more! The brilliant creative minds at Dutch design company Droog may have found a solution. Their clever clothes hanger lamp (designed by Hector Serrano) allows you to makes a feature out of your lovelier garments and will remind you to hang them up too! One of the best things about this lamp has to be that you can change it depending on your mood. Whether you adorn the light with a sparkly disco number or your favourite rock ‘n’ roll tee, it will cast a fashion fabulous glow across your boudoir (and possibly the heaps of clothes that you really should hang in the wardrobe). Available to buy online from Droog.

Mat&Jewski – Panneau Lumineux

panneauMat&Jewski is actually a French designer, who has created so many unusual and beautiful lamps that it’s difficult to choose just one to tell you about here! His feathered light shades, corsage-adorned table lamps and kinky Kamasutra shades will all add a touch of fun to your home, however our favourite of his designs has to be the Panneau Lumineux. Made from brushed aluminium, this is a lighting solution that will really become part of your interior. It’s a little bit pretty and a little bit urban but very, very cool. There’s a sort of magic about the glow emanating from pin-pricks in the glossy metallic exterior – Monsieur Mat&Jewski says that it was his destiny to design, and we tend to agree.
