CRAVE: Memo Scented Candles
It’s hard work being a domestic goddess. And even domestic goddesses sometimes need to put their feet up, open a decent bottle of Saint-Estèphe, pop the latest Hotel Costes chillout compilation on their Bang & Olufsen stereo and contemplate the harmony and perfection of their home. But wait! Something is missing. Any wannabe Nigella should know that scented candles are an essential for domestic tranquility (as well as perfuming your home on those days when you haven’t had time to make homemade bread). French brand Memo’s selection of candles are a luxe and fun alternative to Diptyque, which, let’s face it, are so last year.
Memo is the creation of two French women, Clara Molloy and Aliénor Massenet. The range of candles, perfumes and home fragrances was inspired by their travels and they opened their boutique in Paris in 2007. The candles show the pair’s love of jetsetting as well as their sense of humour. You can choose from fourteen fragrance, all with quirky titles; our favourites are Lost in Mykonos (wild mint and ouzo), Sexy Saint Tropez (tuberose and white wine) and Ibiza Buzz (fig fruit and dance). Although if you fancy venturing further afield, you could go for Take me to Saint-Barth! (caramel milkshake) or Kinky Kyoto (green bamboo). And for something wintry, choose Mad about Gstaad (Christmas tree and snowflake) or Moscow Glow (red berry and vodka shot). Obviously the candles aren’t supposed to be a substitute for travelling to the destinations themselves, but they will transport you to a place of calm, relaxation and memories of days in the sun or en piste. Memo also sells sets of three mini candles which are perfect as a gift for a jetsetting domestic goddess pal!
MEMO candles are available at the brand’s boutique, their online shop, Le Bon Marché in Paris or at Harvey Nichols stores across the UK.
