My Vintage Wardrobe

Posted in Fashionista » News » by :: August 14, 2009

Style-suffolk-2Fashion folk aren’t principally known for their altruistic characteristics, but My Vintage Wardrobe, a Suffolk based company, is hoping to change that. The enterprise has organised an afternoon of catwalk delights on Sunday 16th August, featuring vintage styles from the 1920’s to 1980’s, with all proceeds going to the local St Elizabeth’s Hospice.

Attendees can expect fabulous fashion, enjoy retro beats and nibble on ladylike cupcakes from the Hummingbird Bakery… as well as feeling that nice, warm feeling being charitable gives! In addition, guests can peruse an exclusive selection of stalls, dedicated to vintage jewellery and homewear; all of which will also be kindly donating a portion of their profits to the charitable cause.

My Vintage Wardrobe came on to the fashion scene only a few months ago, yet the brand already boasts a huge range of accessories, from print leggings to clutch bags, pocket mirrors and brooches, along with lavish evening gowns and even vintage bridal dresses. But the company’s ethos on vintage is a very modern one, as they hope to inspire their clients to mix and match bygone styles with everyday wear, without feeling like they are in costume or behind the times. “We alter our stock to reflect current fashion trends – our vintage playsuits have been a consistent sell-out at every fair this summer. It’s not hard to convince people to buy the original article rather than the flimsy topshop version which costs more,” enthused one of the company’s founders, Rose Elspeth Janes.

Elspeth Janes set up the company last spring with her mother and sister, who are particularly passionate about bringing vintage chic to the countryside. These considerate ladies decided it was about time that local fashionistas didn’t have to trek into London to find affordable and unique vintage clothing, and set about bringing style to Suffolk. Originally operating from a small shop in their family home that was open for browsers a mere couple of days per week; the brand has gradually expanded, and is now an important name at vintage fairs across the country.

The upcoming event will take place on the open-plan top floor of the Old Warehouse, Brook Street, to a small and exclusive crowd between 3pm-6pm. Tickets are £8, which includes nibbles, and reservations can be made by telephone. You can follow both the show and the brand on facebook.
