Womenswear Autumn 2010

Jeff Garner founded Prophetik eight years ago in Tennessee. Both menswear and womenswear are produced with environmentally friendly materials according to the label’s “wearable philosophy”: fashion as an instrument for environmental and societal change.

In an interview with CNN in August 2009, Garner explained that he “handpicks his fabrics and makes sure they are certified.” Prophetik also has its own organic garden and uses the material grown there for hand dying fabric. “Sweet old ladies paid fair wages” sew the clothes in Tennessee.

Some fabrics are even trump-painted by elephants from the Asian Elephant Art & Conservation Project. The charity aims at “saving the diminishing number of Asian elephants left on our planet through its work with domesticated elephants”.

Set to revolutionise the way we think about ethical fashion, Prophetik has been exhibiting at Estethica and showing in parallel to London Fashion Week for a few seasons now. Jimmy Choo is a front-row regular.

The Designer

Jeff Garner came to fashion after a detour via acting and music. Prior to founding his own label, he worked alongside Calvin Klein, J Lindeberg and co-designed the sustainable label Convoy.

Garner’s involvement in green fashion goes beyond his own brand. He is starting a school of Sustainability in Fashion with Lipscomb University in Nashville. He’s also spoken on the subject at high profile events such as the Drapers Fashion Summit 2009.

Autumn/Winter 2010

For its debut at Vauxhall Fashion Scout, Garner delivered menswear and womenswear worthy of punked-up Scarlett and Rhett.

Menswear Autumn 2010

From long evening gowns with crinoline-large skirts to short hoody dresses, the collection showed a symphony of American Civil War colours: black, blue, red and grey. The Civil War inspiration was also visible in the short jackets and trousers with red braiding.

For menswear, Garner showed a classic romantic silhouette composed of trousers, waistcoats with detailed buttoning, shirts and nonchalantly tied scarves under dark redingotes.

The clothes will be made of herringbone hemp, peace silk and elephant painted hemp jersey.

The Buzz

Cameron Diaz, Rihanna, Miley Cyrus or Kings of Leon: actors and musicians alike have been spotted wearing Garner’s clothes.

Where to Buy

In the UK, the brand is sold at Eco Age and Equa Boutique. Prophetik also has an online store.
