Richard Avedon exhibition – Amsterdam

Posted in Fashionista » News » by :: February 16, 2009

avedonThe Amsterdam Photography Museum is hosting an exhibition in celebration of Richard Avedon’s career which spans almost 60 years. Avedon, described as “one of the premier American photographers”, has produced a portfolio worthy of the Hollywood Hall of Fame, from stills of Marilyn Monroe to Bob Dylan. His photography celebrates not only the high end of society, but also the most humble -  from patients in mental hospitals to those present at the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Unlike to most other artists of his craft, Avedon chose to capture his subjects at their most vulnerable, and his influence has long since resounded on the work of his peers. During his lifetime, his work has featured in Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar, leading to Avedon becoming an esteemed fashion advertisement photographer, notably being assigned to commandeer several Versace campaigns. His collections can be found in London, New York and Switzerland, and for 3 months only, Amsterdam.
