Rush Moorgate – London

Posted in Mirror Mirror » Tips » by :: August 31, 2009

rush2Over the past decade, the City of London has evolved from an entirely male-dominated environment into a place where women can shine right alongside the most hard-hitting financiers. As a result, businesses have flocked to capitalise on the non-male consumer bracket. With a huge array of clothing shops, salons, and nail bars popping up faster than you can blink, the City of London has finally developed its feminine side. Bar-hopping in the City, you will, admittedly, spot one or two gold-diggers, but the City of London is mostly filled with women with their own money to spend.

We might exist in a world of number-crunching and city boys shouting about the latest stock exchange figures, but that certainly doesn’t mean that we’re willing to work alongside them with anything but the most impeccable of blow-dries and holiday-in-the-Maldives-perfect highlights. Oh no. A city boy may require nothing more than a slick of gel and a spritz of aftershave, but if you want to play the game, you have to look the part.

For cash-rich, time-poor city girls, finding a salon that will deliver the perfect polished colour and expensive cut without having to hop in a cab and travel to the West End, is like receiving a financial tip ahead of the rest of the pack. You’re in the know. We simply don’t have time to travel across town; plus a couple of years ago, I endured a very traumatic “scissor-happy” experience at one of the so-called “best salons” in the West End. That decided things for me.

Of course, there will always be posh salons around the City of London, and it’s just a question of knowing where to go. The insider information came in the form of Rush Moorgate. Rush is actually a chain and has salons across London, which might be a little offputting. However with a new salon in the city comes a range of high-end, boutique services designed to cater to the discerning client.

rush1Rush Moorgate has a simple, sleek design which isn’t overfussy; this should tell you something about the salon facilities and the staff themselves. They know you’re in a rush (hence the name…) and will offer advice and treatments to fit to the customer and their schedule. The financial world is not what it was and we don’t all have time to hop on a jet to Monaco for a long weekend; my purpose in visiting Rush Moorgate was to recreate the glamorous blonde look that has suffered lately due to the sunless City of London…

I was also introduced to the salon’s range of Kerastase deep conditioning treatments – the perfect fix for hair stressed out by one too many 6am blowdries and dried out by the city air. If you have more time or are opting for a spot of multi-tasking why not try one of their Shu Uemura Ceremonies? Inspired by the Japanese Tea Ceremony and Shiatsu massages, treatments last between 15 and 50 minutes and combine relaxation of body, mind and… hair! Don’t forget to switch off your PDA – the Japanese Tea Ceremony does not include the latest updates from the Nikkei…

Whether you work in the City, or you’re just popping in for business or pleasure, Rush Moorgate is the best in boutique hairstyling I’ve seen inside the City of London. And that’s one tip you definitely don’t have to keep to yourself.
