Seasonal Indulgence
With the nights drawing in and the weather cheerlessly flitting between torrential rain and a dull, constant drizzle, nothing seems as sensible nor desirable as spending an evening indulging in a dose of pampering. So draw the curtains, run a bath (why not kick up your heels and crank up the heating for the first time this season?) and enjoy our guide to the ultimate treats for bath and body.
Chic French brand Diptyque are renowned for their luxurious candles – from Baies to Figuier and Mimosa to Oranger, the subtle scents are celebrated by many. But their range of products for the body are also rather special. Precious Oils for Body and Bath is part of the Art of Body Care line, and is the last word in luxurious bath times. Added to running water or used post-bath, the oil moisturises and delicately scents the skin thanks to macadamia nut, sweet almond and Florentine iris. All that aside, the bottle will add more than a touch of left bank elegance to your tub. If you prefer your bath with oodles of luxuriant bubbles, Neal’s Yard Remedies’ Aromatic Foaming Bath is a deliciously soothing choice. Relaxation is guaranteed with a blend of lavender, spanish marjoram and geranium essential oils. Just try not to doze off in the tub!
It’s a well known fact that none of us exfoliate as much as we might. With an army of products to chose from there really is no excuse, particularly when they are as lovely as Laura Mercier’s Fresh Fig Scrub. This little pot contains real fig seeds for the exfoliation part and a dash of honey to condition your skin. Exfoliating definitely becomes less of a chore with such a delicious offering, whisking you away for a Greek-scented moment and delivering you back with glowing skin.
Skin prepped, a star shaving cream is surely a must. It’s really no good having silken skin if it lurks underneath a prickly layer. Kiehl’s Simply Mahvelous Legs offers a more indulgent way to shave, and when it comes to Kiehl’s you can always be sure the product will deliver what it promises. Suffice to say your legs won’t be marvellous, they’ll be Mahvelous. Protected whilst the razor has its way, and strokably soft afterwards.
Jo Malone’s latest seasonal offering is Autumn on a plate, and perfect for an evening in. The English Pear & Freesia Shower Gel promises to transport you to a place where wild roses scramble and fruit is twisted from the tree. The scent, which should stay with you for most of a day, seems to conjure up the perfect English country getaway – one where Anya Hindmarch luggage organisers are de rigueur, where Cath Kidston tea towels hang from an Aga and muddy Hunter wellies sit by the door. Not bad at all for a delightful lather which will leave your skin squeaky clean.
All this body pampering is all well and good, but one’s mane must not be forgotten. Lounging around in the bath provides the perfect opportunity to condition your tresses. Moroccanoil is something of a cult brand, beloved by celebrities and clever mere mortals alike. After washing your hair, comb a walnut sized amount of their Restorative Hair Mask through and leave for the duration of your bath before rinsing out, for locks that will be returned to their rightful health, boasting a mirror-like shine.
Last but not least in this top to toe extravaganza, are two hard working hand and feet pampering products from Bliss – the Sloane Ranger’s spa of choice. The Softening Socks and Glamorous Gloves are truly genius. Popped on following a little moisturising, these little beauties will be pulled off to reveal the softest of feet and hands. Yes you may look like you have a slightly unhealthy penchant for turquoise accessories for the 20 minutes they’re on, but it is a small price to pay for the skin that will gratefully emerge – ready to be swathed in woolly tights and cashmere gloves the morning after. In my opinion, these are the finishing touches that seal the deal on a truly indulgent evening in.
