Running In Heels Summer Playlist 2009
The first lady of filthy electro pop is back. Irresistible.
Another feisty electro female. Yawn. Well, actually, no. I challenge you to stand still to this track. Also, her mum is June from The Bill. Fact.
Florence and the Machine – Dog Days Are Over
It truly is the summer of the eccentric female solo artists and Florence is up there with the best of them, handclaps, harps and all.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Heads Will Roll
Karen O and the boys really need no introduction – except that latest album ‘It’s Blitz!’ and this single in particular is a must for the summer. “Off with head! Dance till you’re dead!” – the new campsite chant of 2009?
Superb new offering from the Brixton boys: it’ll see you through the summer, from euphoric Balearic sunsets to rosy fingered dawn creeping up to the 15th floor of East Berlin tower blocks.
Friendly Fires – On BoardAn unmissable track from one of the biggest new bands of the year.
The Wave Machines – I Go I Go I Go
More kooky electro pop from these newcomers.
Royksopp feat. Robyn – The Girl and the Robot.
As if we needed any further proof that Scandinavians do it better.
First Aid Kit – You’re Not Coming Home Tonight
Speaking of which, these disgustingly young Swedes have been quietly conquering with their heartfelt bluesy pop, and with a daytime set at Glastonbury could well be the band of the summer.
Animal Collective – Summertime Clothes
A surprising breakthrough tune from the famously obscure New York based band.
CSS-inspired chatty female vocals and an undeniably danceable beat. The Noisettes – Don’t Upset The Rhythm
Try and get this out of your head.
Whether you love or hate her, or are completely baffled by her, she’s going to be ubiquitous this summer. Give in and turn this up loud.
Stand out track on the trio’s new album, and looking set to be massive.
Noah and the Whale – 5 Years Time
This song will probably provide the tweest and most heartwarming singalong of the festival season. All together now: “Sun, Sun, Sun!”
The biggest reunion of the summer.
