Ten Cool Places in….Copenhagen
Our selection of the best places in Denmark’s capital for brunch, lunch, drinks, dancing or…laundry…?!
Laundromat Café
Fancy a spot of multitasking? Laundromat Café allows you to combine hanging out with friends, eating, drinking and doing your laundry! The deco is quirky and eclectic and the food uncomplicated and easy on the wallet. Don’t forget to check out the extensive colour-coded library to find some reading material whilst you spin your whites.
NASA
Achingly hip, this space-themed bar/club is the coolest place of the moment. Tucked away in a cobbled courtyard, a steel lift takes you to the first floor and the blindingly white interior. This is the place to be seen and although technically speaking its a members-only bar, if you look like Helena Christensen or arrive in a Ferrari, you may get a chance to sample the delicious cocktails!
La Glace
La Glace’s motto is “cakes and art and love each day make all troubles fade away”, and whilst they can’t guarantee art or love, cakes are something this teashop definitely know a thing or two about. This is the oldest Konditori, or cake shop, in Denmark and trying to choose just one cake may prove challenging ! Their hot chocolate is simply divine. You may want to skip lunch before coming to La Glace!
Viva
If you want to take advantage of Copenhagen’s location on the water, you should try out Viva. It’s a cross between a cocktail bar and a restaurant on a houseboat in the harbour. The cuisine is light, simple and inspired by mediterranean flavours. There’s a fantastic view over the harbour and the prices are fairly reasonable. The top deck is highly recommended in the summer months for catching a few rays and relaxing with friends.
Café Klimt
Named after painter Gustav Klimt who inspired the artsy interior this is a great little find for a snack, fresh coffee or afternoon tea. Café Klimt is cosy and relaxed and the artworks are provided by local artists and change on a monthly basis. Lots of locals come here and its famous for its generous brunches which are served until around 3pm if you want to have a lie-in.
Cafe The á la Menthe
This Moroccan tearoom is located in Stroget, and is the perfect spot for a bit of relaxation post-shopping. The eclectic decoration is typically North African as are the tea and the delicious pastries.
Jolene
Named after Dolly Parton’s song, Jolene is located in the ultra-cool meatpacking district surrounded by trendy shops and galleries. The bar is run by a group of friends from Iceland who have started collaborations with some of the hippest Djs and artists in Copenhagen. On warm nights, the terrace outside the bar is buzzing and packed with Copenhagen’s trendiest party animals.
Pussy Galore’s Flying Circus
This bar and restaurant is every bit as glamourous as the Bond girl its named after, and regulars include Prince Frederik, the heir to the Danish throne, who has a reputation of being a bit of an international playboy. The deco is sleek and minimalist and the cocktails divine. If you’re here for a night on the tiles we recommend the mojitos, otherwise the brunch is the perfect hangover cure.
Rust
Situated in hip Norrebro, Rust is the place to go for supermodel-spotting. The venue has a cool, sophisticated deco and a restaurant, bar, music stage and dancefloor. Come here for live music on Thursdays or hit the basement club with Copenhagen’s beautiful people at the weekend until sunrise. The Danes definitely know how to party.
Karriere
Karriere is the brainchild of a brother-sister team and combines art, organic food, cocktails, movies, lectures, concerts and cultural events. You can find Karriere in the increasingly hip meatpacking district, and the venue used to be an old slaughterhouse. Today the space is filled with ultra-modern Danish design and art installations, and Copenhagen’s coolest come to sip cocktails, chat, flirt and dance to the coolest Djs in town.
