Titanic Spa – Yorkshire

The imposing exterior of Titanic Spa

Being the devoted daughter that I am, I will watch Ant and Dec on a Saturday night, albeit through gritted teeth, because my Mother enjoys their Geordie banter. I will order a bottle of Chianti instead of my favourite Pinot Noir, because that’s her tipple of choice, and when she suggests we pay a visit to the ‘eco-luxury’ Titanic Spa in Huddersfield, naturally, I oblige.  Travelling to the depths of Yorkshire on my altruistic quest, I discover a heavenly holistic experience.

I have to admit, the words ‘Huddersfield’ and ‘eco’ didn’t instantly invoke images of a luxury setting, but when we arrived, it all made sense. The exterior alone is impressive; an arresting 18th century former textile mill, with the reflection of the rolling countryside highlighted on the spa’s imposing facade.

Titanic Spa has everything one could hope for in a spa; hair salon, gym, swimming pool, jacuzzi, outdoor relaxation area for the warmer months, relaxation room for lounging around in and the Heat Experience area, which is home to many of the usual spa facilities, and more.

With no intention of suffering a punishing regime on the treadmill, we sampled Titanic’s Heat Experience (£65 per person), based on the Roman ritual of heating and then cooling the body by a series of experiences, including; the Aromatherapy Room, Crystal Steam Bath, Ice Room, Sauna Cabin and small plunge pool, which, through raising and lowering the body temperature, promises health, immunity and the removal of toxins.

The Ice Room is an unexpected, if not remotely sadistic pleasure. Not quite brave enough to coat my semi-naked self in lashings of ice, instead I wrap a large handful of ice in the readily available face cloths, smothering it over my bumpy bits; the benefits can be felt sweeping through my veins as the coldness takes hold, increasing circulation and flushing out toxins. Not forgetting the delights of the Mud Chamber (£35 per person), inspired by ancient Egyptian bathing, which looks like it could be incredibly good fun with the boyfriend on a future visit.

Relax and recharge at the eco-spa

I opt for the Decléor Aroma Expert facial, involving a blissful 75 minutes of drifting in and out of consciousness. Aroma Expert, a high-precision treatment, targeting my specific needs, begins with a delicate and calming back massage. Cocooned in the warmth of the treatment room, my therapist’s healing hands began to gently cleanse, tone, exfoliate, deep cleanse and moisturise my skin. My first Decléor experience, I was impressed with the holistic, healing and long-lasting effects of the treatment.

Other brands used at Titanic Spa include Carita Paris for the face and body, Jessica for the nails, while Redken is used in the salon.

Before heading back to the changing rooms I couldn’t resist dipping my toes once more in Titanic’s therapy for the feet; a delicious built-in, mosaic foot spa. Sunken into a tiled base, this is an extraordinary treat for the feet, and one not to be missed at Titanic.

The atmosphere at Titanic Spa definitely has a friendly-northern vibe; and with luxury in abundance, it’s just the tonic to put a little spring in your step.
